PHOTOGRAPGERS.. TTL Flashes? Commanders?

I own a Nikon D3000, I LOVE it! I'm looking at buying a Nikon SB-600 flash unit. However, I don't know if I'll need a SU-800 Wireless Speedlight Commander or not. Does anyone know if I will need one, or how to tell by the camera itself if I will need one?? Please and thank you for all answers!

I believe the SB600 is compatible if used directly on the hot shoe or with the Nikon cord. If you want to go wireless you will need the commander. There was discussion of this here:
