Can FM radio stations have remote studios?
Can FM stations have remote studios (such as a studio in a town 15-20 miles away) away from the home base (where the main tower is and regular studio is located), via broadband lines or phone lines. And if that is not possible, how does broadcast radio to receive or transmit high quality sound (not over air) back to the studio, such as interviews (not over phone), or a radio show such as ryan seacrest who is in California but can be heard in New York, Michigan, Ohio, Etc.
Actually, having the studio and tower co-located is more the exception than the norm. None of the stations near where I live transmit from the studios; they all have remote transmitter sites.
They feed the transmitter with an upper 900 Mhz or, microwave, or leased line link (it used to be an analog link, but are now ISDN).
Remotes are done with broadband, dedicated modem, ISDN, or a frequency shifter on an dial-up analog phone line (it shifts the voice band up at the remote, the end down at the studio with a complementary device.
Shows like Ryan Seacrest are distributed over satellite (using proprietary secure equipment made only for the radio industry, you cannot get one) or Internet.
