Photogenic Studio Gear???

Looking to build a small home studio (mainly for practice for school). Wanted to know about this equipment, if its a good deal and would that be all i need?

Photogenic flashmaster (600ws) power pack + 3 lights (photogenic 8050's) for $400 CND or 2 light kit for $325 CND (lightstands included)
The person i'm buying them from said there heavy duty commercial lighting and there curently being used for school portraits and can be used for many purposes. Getting them from a seasoned pro willing to show me how to use them etc..

I haven't tried Photogenic, but just looked them on ebay. The lights themselves LOOK to be decent. Is the flashmaster power pack 600 watts total? If that's the case, I'd skip it and buy one good Alien Bees light or other Paul C. Buff light. If they're 600 each they might be ok.
I've seen too many people buy cheap lighting kits on ebay that turn out to be crap cans. I have one of them myself as a matter of fact. Wish I'd have saved some cash and done it right to begin with. Photogenic does look to be quite a bit better than those though. So that's good.
Alien Bees are decently in-expensive. Paul C. Buff also makes the "White Lightning" brand and those are EXCELLENT but out of my price range.
2-3 lights are a good start if you don't plan on doing hi-key. No white muslin's until you get more lights though! ;-) Even then... Vinyl just looks nicer.
They sound great to shoot on black, walls, or formal backdrops.
Have fun!
