Wow, that's a cool effect. I would recommend trying a gradient overlay with your text field. Double click your text layer to go into the Layer Style menu. From there, select Gradient Overlay. Leave Blend Mode at Normal, Opacity at 100%, Style=Linear (check align with layer if its not already), Angle 120 degrees or so, Scale 100%. Then click on the gradient bar itself to get the color menu. Try using the Transparent Rainbow style for your starting point.
