About a Dell Laptop Charger, is the shape of the ac plug important?
A friend needs a charger for his laptop and he was wondering if the shape of the ac input is important. The old one has an octagon shape (see picture),

but he finds ones that are oval shape. I know the octagon shape cord will fit, but I was curious why do they make this shape. The cord reads 125 volts at 7 amperes. Thanks for your information.
Someone wrote that it's called the figure eight style plug.
Probably to stop people from using transformers that are not designed for the laptop. I got three laptops lying around, each of them with slightly different transformer power outputs - thanks to each having a different shape I wont accidentally mix them at least.
